A New Era for Bethesda University Men’s Soccer Program

As one season comes to an end, another emerges on the horizon, and for Bethesda University's men’s soccer program the future is looking bright.

A new era has arrived with the appointment of Emmanuel Magallon as the new head coach. Stepping into his role with determination and vision, Magallon brings a fresh perspective to the team. His first season as the head coach saw the team finish with a record of 2-11-1. However, the team played some attractive offensive football without getting lucky in close games.

However, amid the challenges, a glimmer of hope and triumph emerged: the impressive 4-1 victory against Stanton University, a defining moment that underscored the team's genuine potential and resilience.

In our exclusive interview with Emmanuel Magallon, the newly appointed head coach answered some questions:

When asked about his attraction to the coaching opportunity at Bethesda University, Coach Magallon emphasized his enthusiasm for coaching at the university level as the primary motivation. "The opportunity to coach at a university is what motivated me to make the best of it," he stated.

In terms of short-term and long-term goals, Coach Magallon outlined his aspirations to elevate the program's visibility within Anaheim and across California. "My short-term goals are to build the school's reputation and make it well-known in the city of Anaheim and all of California," he explained. Additionally, he expressed ambitions to lead the team to nationals and secure victory.

When asked about the pressure of being a head coach, especially in his first season, he stated "It all comes down to having the patience to make the team work," he remarked, acknowledging language barriers as a significant challenge, with some international students. However, he emphasized the importance of players buying into the team's vision.

In discussions about the current roster and the many internationals’ students, he intends to maintain the recruitment of international student-athletes while emphasizing the need to diversity in the roster with more homegrown talent. He aims to create a balanced and inclusive team, providing opportunities for players who have competed in the US and are seeking to transfer to Bethesda University.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the primary goal for the team is clear: "Make nationals."

The future is looking bright for the men’s soccer program with Coach Magallon on the wheel.
