Bethesda University Baseball Claims SWS Tournament Championship

San Jacinto, CA: On a picturesque Saturday afternoon at The Oaks at Soboba, the Bethesda Men's Baseball team captured the inaugural SWS Baseball Tournament Championship with a workmanlike 10-4 victory over the California Miramar University Fighting Falcons.  In a game that was close into the middle innings, with both teams changing leads a couple of times, Bethesda found a way to break the game open in the bottom half of the 5th inning with a 4 run outburst.  The following inning saw another 4 run outburst which created the separation the team needed to take a commanding lead and secure the championship and win for starter Jeremiah Duran who had a solid 5 inning start.

With the team trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs, Aidan Bustillos came up clutch with a huge 2 run double to give Bethesda a 4-3 lead which the team never relinquished the rest of the game.  The double ignited the team which then went on to follow with another big inning and the men never looked back.  Every player had a hand in the win, with the team achieving 8 Hit by pitches and clutch hits from Bustillos, Trevor Scott, and Miguel Santos who was 4 for 4 on the day (earning Player of the Game honors), also contributed the play of the year with a diving stop defensively in the top of the 6th which was admired by everyone in attendance.  Late in the game with Cal Miramar threatening with the bases loaded, Isiah Perez came in to relieve Victor Colon and threw one pitch and got a double play to end the Cal Miramar rally, a very pivotal part of the game which saw Perez come in and shut the door.

The game was a great end to the season and a positive step for the men moving forward and building off the late success achieved during the season's final weeks.
