Baseball Season Recap

The 2023 Bethesda Baseball season was a success.  Entering his 1st season at the helm, Head Coach Marcos Bugarin inherited a team that had won just 9 games the whole season the year before.  After the 1st few weeks of practice, it was evident to Coach Marcos that the number of wins from the previous year was misleading.  He was sure he found a "diamond in the rough" so to speak with his year's group of ballplayers.  "I saw the movements and abilities of the players after a couple practices and asked myself, and literally asked the team, their opinion of themselves.  I assured them that they were a lot better than 9 wins" said Coach Marcos.

In fact, they proved him right this year, not only winning 9 games, but doubling up last year's wins with 18 in 2023.  "I am extremely proud of these young men.  They worked extremely hard all year and believed in themselves and had some quality wins this year."  When asked about his thoughts on this year's senior class, Coach Marcos replied "we were fortunate enough to have a quality group of men that lead from the front.  This year's seniors set a quality example of how to go to work with a blue-collar mentality as well as a professionalism that will see these guys be successful in life beyond baseball.  It was an honor and privilege for my coaching staff, as well as myself, to have had the opportunity to coach these young men."  The Bethesda Baseball team looks to keep the momentum rolling going forward and improving on this successful year.

The season saw a ton of great moments with Coach Marcos' 1st career win as a head coach on Saturday, Feb. 4th, a 10-3 win vs. Westcliff University.  It also saw the boys roll of a 6-game winning streak bringing their record to .500 @ 11-11 at the time.  Playing against some of the top NAIA and D3 teams in the country, the Flames held their own and even came out with some big wins including a huge 6-3 win vs. Cal Lutheran University who at the time was a top 20 team in the D3 rankings.  The season finished in a highlight of sorts as Senior Jaden Burns finished off his college career with a 2 strike Home Run, a majestic blast.  Over the course of the season, the Bethesda baseball team continually received praise and words of respect from their opponents and officials that officiated their games.  Truly a successful season.

When asked about the future for the Bethesda baseball program Coach Marcos had the following to say: "The future is extremely bright for these young men and this program.  This year's team set the foundation and groundwork for the future years to follow.  The boys are moving in the right direction and once we reload for the upcoming years, there is no telling how far this program will go.  We are going to be really good, really fast, and that is something myself and my staff are excited about."
