Bethesda Flames baseball season opener this weekend!
Head Coach - Marcos Bugarin
Entering 16th year of coaching. This is Coach Bugarin's head coaching debut. Having coached at the college level as an infield coach, hitting coach, and recruiting coordinator (1 year at Pasadena City College 2013, 3 years at Rio Hondo College 2015-2017, and 3 years at East Los Angeles College 2018-2020). Coach has made a name for himself in the JuCo baseball world especially in California. He also has made coaching stops at the following high schools; San Marino High School 5 years (2009-12, 2014), most recently Covina High School 1 year (2022). Coach has helped numerous athletes advance to 4 year universities and/or pro careers. Have been a professional scout for the Pericos De Puebla in the LMB (Liga Mexicana de Beisbol).
As a player, played 2 years at Pasadena City College and 2 years at Culver-Stockton College (Canton, MO). Achieving All South Coast Conference honors both years at PCC and 1 All Conference honor at Culver-Stockton in 2006 leading the Conference in home runs and setting the Culver-Stockton record for most put outs. In 2006, led the NAIA #9 ranked Wildcats in batting average, hits, RBI's, and home runs. Defensively had a .991 fielding percentage making only 4 errors in over 400 chances.
Coach's statement about this upcoming season;
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead this group of young men, not only through the baseball season but also in this transformative time in their lives. My staff and I are committed to creating not only a quality program, but quality young men in the process."
Assistant Coaches include, Kurt Lippert, Steve Trombly, Henry Barrera
Kurt Lippert
12 years of coaching experience. 4 years each at Azusa High School and South Hills High School. 1 year at Covina High School. 3 years of travel ball coaching experience. As a player, played 2 years at Mt. Sac. Entering his 1st season as a college coach. Will be working with the Catchers this season and coach 1st during games.
Steve Trombly
Steve Trombly was an All American player and has been coaching for 25 years at the college, high school and club levels. For the last 21 years he has ran his own private baseball academy (Trombly Baseball) and most recently coached during the spring at Crean Lutheran HS. He has helped guide his teams to numerous National Championships and has coached over 50 MLB players including Mike Trout, Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper and Gerrit Cole when they were in HS. Steve will be working with the Outfielders and head the recruiting duties.
Henry Barrera
Drafted in the 5th round of the MLB Draft and signed with the Kansas City Royals in 2004. Played for 9 seasons having been added to the 40-man roster for the last two years of his MLB career. Since retiring, for the last 9 years, has been training and developing young athletes with a main focus on mechanics, arm health and velocity. Henry will be our Pitching Coordinator as well as run our strength and conditioning efforts.
Position Player Captain-
Marco Carbajal is 23 in his senior year at Bethesda University and majoring in business administration. His main goal as a captain of this baseball team to lead these men to trust one another and to be excellent, mature, and God fearing Men to take this on to their next chapters in life. "It is an honor to be a leader for these men that I have the privilege to go and compete with this season!!" A fact fun about Marco is that he plays electric guitar.
Pitchers Captain-
Roberto Alejandro Novela born in Rosarito, Mexico but moved to Inglewood, Ca. He received an A.A. Degree from West Los Angeles College where he played under Murphy Sua. He is a senior pursuing a bachelors degree in Sports Management. His goals this year as captain are to motivate his teammates to become better men and to set a foundation for the future of Bethesda Baseball.
Coaches comments about his captains;
"Marco has been a leader both as a player and a student for this program. A model young man that works hard and helps his teammates get better. Happy to have him on the squad."
"Roberto is a hard worker with an affinity to male others around him better by bringing quality enjoy and being supportive of his teammates. Sets the benchmark academically for others to follow."
The Flames will start this season against The Master's University this coming weekend. Go Flames!
