Flores West Region Player of the Year. Five Others All Region

ANAHEIM, Calif. - On Monday, the NCCAA announced their All-West Region Awards. The Flames were well represented with six players being honored.

Senior, Adrian Flores was named the West Region Player of the Year.

Five other Flames were named to the All Regional Team. Those players are Kevin Maxey, Daniel Arellano, DJ Gunderson, Nathan Munoz, and Mario Gonzalez.

Adrian Flores SR

West Region Player of the Year

Adrian was the most consistent hitter this season for the Flames. He led the team in batting average (.426), hits (75), doubles (16), triples (4), RBI (52), and slugging (.733). He was second on the team in Home Runs and OBP. He has a slash line of .426/.472/.733 and is currently on a 21 game hitting streak. During that streak, he is 47-88 (.534) with 13 multi-hit games including back-to-back five hit games April 22-23 in which he hit for the cycle on the 22nd, and had a grand slam and 6 RBI on the 23rd. He was named the NCCAA Player of the Week for the week of April 17, and only had one error on the season, which occurred in the first game of the year.

Kevin Maxey SR

Kevin led the Flames in Home Runs this year with 14 in just 45 games. On the season, he has slugged .698 with a slash line of .355/.407/.698. He had four outfield assists and did not make an error all year. He is currently on a 10 game hitting streak and he hit home runs in six of the final eight games of the season. Prior to his 10 game hitting streak, he had a 15 game hitting streak and has hit safely in 25 of his last 26 games. He has 19 multi-hit games this year and on February 24, he went 4-6 with two home runs and six runs batted in at La Sierra.

Daniel Arellano SR

Daniel was the number three hitter and ace all season for the Flames. An All-American last year, he followed it up with an even better campaign this year. He had a slash line of .347/.405/.526 and is currently tied for third on the team with six home runs. He had an 11 game hitting streak from March 23-April 12.  On the season, he had 18 multi-hit games including seven games with at least three hits. On the mound, Daniel logged wins against The Masters University, Biola, Vanguard (three teams that made the NAIA GSAC tournament), Simpson, and St.Katherine's twice. In a must win game during the West Regional, Daniel threw eight innings allowing one run and striking out six. He threw five scoreless innings against The Masters, and seven innings allowing one run against both Biola and Vanguard.

DJ Gunderson SR

All West Region

DJ was dominant this year as the Flames closer. He started the season with 10 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He appeared in 20 games and went 3-1 with seven saves. DJ had 52 strikeouts in 32 innings good for a K/9 of 14.63. He recorded a win or a save in 40% of Flames wins.

Nathan Munoz JR

All West Region

Nathan played shortstop, centerfield, and third base for the Flames this season and has been the leadoff hitter all year. He has a slash line of .322/.385/.470 and has five home runs this year to go along with 12 doubles and 8 stolen bases. On March 7, Nathan went 3-5 with two home runs and four runs batted in a win against then NAIA ranked #16 Vanguard. On February 24, he went 5-7 with three doubles and two runs batted in at La Sierra.

Mario Gonzalez JR

Mario is leading the Flames with a .486 On Base Percentage. He is tied for third on the team with six home runs and third in slugging at .560. He has a slash line of .330/.486/.560 with 7 doubles and 31 RBI. He had a 12 game hitting streak from March 31-April 23. Mario is leading the Flames with 34 combined walks and hit by pitches.
