Flames Lose Close One at Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Bethesda Flames had some costly mistakes that led to a 5-2 loss at Westmont.

It was a pitching duel for the first half of the game as both starting pitchers put up five straight zeros to start the game.

The Flames got on the board first in the sixth, when Adrian Flores delivered a two-out RBI single in to left-center.

It looked like Flames starter Daniel Arellano was going was going to put up another zero in the sixth after he retired the first two batters in the inning. The third, hit a ground ball to third and a Flames error kept the inning alive as the runner reached second. After a walk, Luke Coffey drove a 0-1 change up over the fence in left-center to make it 3-2 Westmont. They would add one more that inning before being retired.

Westmont scored their final run in the seventh inning. With runners at first and third and two outs, Coffey hit a fly ball to left. Flames Daniel Gutierrez had it glance off his glove for the final run.

Arellano would finish with throwing five and two thirds innings allowing no earned runs and three strikeouts.

The Flames move to 15-12 on the year and will host a three game set against William Jessup.
