Bethesda University Welcomes Jamie Newman as Head Women's Basketball Coach

Bethesda University is proud to announce the hiring of Jamie Newman as the new head coach of the women's basketball program.

With a rich background in coaching and player development, Jamie brings a wealth of experience and a vast recruiting network that is expected to elevate the program to new heights.

Jamie's coaching journey includes a notable tenure at Downey Christian School in Orlando, Florida, where he served as a history teacher for three years and the athletic director for seven years. Under his leadership, the school gained national attention, particularly through the development of his son, Julian Newman, who became a viral basketball sensation in his youth. Jamie's daughter, Jaden Newman, also gained recognition as a prodigious young talent, drawing national media attention for her skills and scoring prowess while still in middle school.

Jamie and his wife, Vivian, co-founded Prodigy Prep Academy, a program that quickly rose to national prominence. Prodigy Prep competed in the Grind Session, widely regarded as the nation’s top high school basketball conference, showcasing elite talent from across the country and earning recognition on a national scale.

Beyond the court, the Newman family has been featured in media projects such as the reality show "Hello Newmans," which chronicles their basketball journey. Despite the public spotlight, those who know Jamie, Julian, and Jaden personally describe them as humble, caring individuals who lead by example. Their genuine actions and heartfelt commitment to others are a far cry from the often sensationalized portrayals seen on social media.

Leo Balayon, BU Director of Athletics, “I can confidently say that Jamie's arrival is a tremendous asset to our institution. His extensive recruiting experience, leadership background, and deep connections within the basketball community are invaluable. More importantly, Jamie and his family embody the values we cherish at Bethesda University: humility, dedication, and a sincere concern for others. Their presence enriches our campus culture, and we are thrilled to welcome them into the BU family.”

The Lion Angels family look forward to the lasting impact Jamie will have on our women's basketball program and the broader university community.
