Flames Finish Their Senior Night Game With Only Four Players
RIVERSIDE - The Bethesda Flames Women's Basketball team has met many challenges all season. The most memorable, however, occurred on Senior Night at Riverside City College. The Flames played cross town region rival, University of St. Katherines, and had to finish the last three minutes of the game with only four players. Taylor Smalley, Angie Steel and Tina McKinstry all fouled out before the end of regulation.
The Flames led the majority of the game by 25 plus points and in the last three minutes of the game Flames outscored St. Katherine 10-4 with only four players on the court. Laura Tapia led the Flames by scoring 8 of her 22 points in the last minutes. Vanni Morga capitalized by making 4 of 7 three pointers throughout the game. The other leading scorers were Taylor Smalley and Tina McKinstry with 12 points each.
"I am proud of how resilient these ladies are," Coach Medina said of her team after the win. "They show up, day in and day out, practice hard and play even harder. With a record like ours, the easy route is to quit and not give effort but these ladies refuse to back down." The Flames celebrated their Senior Taylor Smalley's last "home game" who finishes the season averaging 13.1 points per game and compiled her 300th point of the season against St. Katherine.
