Flames Wear #RedForEd and Win 112-28

On Wednesday, educators and supporters across the country wore red in solidarity for the future of education and used the hashtag #RedforEd to bring awareness to the matter on social media outlets. As an educator herself, Coach Medina, heard about the wear-red initiative and felt compelled to show her pride for public education and support for fellow teachers. Wednesday night, Bethesda women's basketball team wore red shirts in their game against Cal. Miramar University.

"I want all of them to be aware of current events that will affect them directly and indirectly" Medina said. "Many of our athletes are majoring in Early Childhood Education or have relatives who are educators and, with the future of public education in jeopardy, it'll be even harder for them to find or keep jobs in the field of education."

Education's purpose is to empower students to find their own paths to their own dreams; to create life-long learners who are prepared for both the modern world and the future; and to empower individuals to make a positive impact in the world. Medina seeks ways to continue to challenge her athletes to have a voice on and off the court.

"I have many relatives that are educators. This matter is even more important to me." Sophomore guard, Nayely Sanchez said. "So today, we are wearing red to show our support of teachers and the education system and stand in solidarity in praying for our country."

At Bethesda University, our Early Childhood Development program seeks to prepare future educators. This major is designed to identify the issues and trends in the field of Early Childhood Education. Students will be equipped with developmentally-appropriate practices for young children. The graduates of this program will be able to open and operate preschool, child care center, family child care home, after-school, and children's ministry.
