Vanaga's 32 Points Lead the Flames to a 111-21 Win Over CMU

Double-digit point totals from six different Flames lifted the Bethesda University women's basketball team past California Miramar University 111-21 Wednesday night at Life Pacific College. Senior Adelina Vanaga (Latvia, Eu.) led the team with a double-double 32 points and 10 rebounds.

Vanaga was 12-of-18 from the field, 7-of-11 from the three with ten rebounds. Senior Victoria Jackson (Oxnard, Ca.) and Junior Gabby Robledo (San Diego, Ca.) finished with 17 points a piece. Classmate Taylor Smalley (San Diego, Ca.) dished out 14 points while Junior Estela Gutierrez (Los Angeles, Ca.) contributed 12. Senior DQ Townsend (San Diego, Ca.) also finished with a double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bethesda scored 30 plus points in three of the four quarters.

The Flames, who held the Fighting Falcons to zero points in the first quarter and just single-digit point totals in two other quarters, kept CMU to a total of 28 shot attempts for the entire game. As a team, Bethesda shot 50 percent from the three and 76.2 percent from the charity stripe.

The first few shots out of Adelina Vanaga's hand didn't exactly point to a big day but even during a minor slump, Vanaga never lost faith in her long-range shooting touch. She proved why, pouring a career-high 32 points in the victory. Adelina Vanaga started her 12-of-18 shooting slowly midway through the first but then would ignite and continue letting the shot go throughout the game finishing 7-of-11 from the arc.

Bethesda will travel to New Mexico where they will play the Eagles of Northern New Mexico College on Friday and Saturday.
