Turnovers Continue to Plague the Flames

Bethesda University women's basketball team saw another close game slip away Saturday night. The Flames lost to UC Merced, 65-59, in a contest hosted at Saddleback College. It has been peaks and valleys for the Flames in the season. They lost multiple games in a row, won some and have now lost consecutive games.

Turnovers continue to be the plague for Bethesda. After playing a solid first half with only 4 turnovers and going into the half leading 38-30, the Flames started the second half with 6 turnovers giving Merced a 12 point swing. The Flames were able to regain the lead at the end of the third quarter with a score of 51-49. Yet again, turnovers and poor shooting cost the flames the game in the fourth quarter. "We went away from what was working for us. We need to stay composed and finish games strong. Silly mistakes down the stretch cost us the game." Coach Medina said after the game. "My assistant, Michael Walker, hit the nail on the head when he said that the 'First half we played team ball and the second we played hero ball.'"

Bethesda University was led by Gabrielle Robledo who scored 19 points in her debut game of the season. The Flames' nightly leading scorers were held to single digits, Estela Gutierrez finished with 9 points and Adelina Vanaga finished with only 6 points.

Bethesda is back in action on Monday as they take on NAIA powerhouse, sixth-ranked Vanguard University. Their first match up against the Lions was Bethesda's second game of the season. The Flames look to fix errors, compete and show improvement from the first encounter.
